Prof FN Ogwueleka
Dean, FMIS

The establishment of the Faculty was in response to the swiftly fluctuating borders of defence and emerging security challenges of the digital age from the fields of military engagement to national development. It was crucial for Nigerian Defence Academy as the only military university in West Africa, to establish a faculty for systematic studies to tackle the evolving demands on defence and technology induced security needs of our country. Wars are attained, battled and prevailed with intelligence, adequate logistic support, scientific and technological approach.  The Faculty has three departments namely Intelligence and Cyber Security (ICS), Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSM), and Military Science and Technology (MST).The Faculty is strategic and fundamental in repositioning NDA as a degree awarding institution with unique character and identity, gradually moving it from conventional university in terms of generic academic provisions. The Faculty is a flagship in the articulation and re-alignment of curriculum within the departments, military institutions and services of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Our vision is to produce competitive Officer Cadets and technologies that can leapfrog the country’s digital and physical security development as well as the operational efficiencies and technological/scientific advancement capabilities of the military necessary for transforming the Nigeria’s security and military realities in line with current digital advancement, innovation and knowledge economy. The Faculty has a mission to develop and provide cutting-edge military science and technology education program to equip Officer Cadets with competitive 21st century capacities to innovatively meet the everyday operational efficiency and technological advancement requirements of the Nigerian Military necessary in transforming Nigeria’s security and military realities for a digitally and physically secure Nigeria. The motto of the Faculty is ‘Knowledge for Excellence, Security and Service’.The dean of the FMSIS is Professor FN Ogwueleka, Professor of Computer Science. She works closely with dynamic experienced team of academic, technical and administrative staff who oversee the academic, extra-curricular and administrative aspects of the Faculty

Faculty of Military Science and Interdisciplinary Studies is the youngest of the four faculties in Nigerian Defence Academy. The NDA Council at its meeting of 12 February 2016 approved in principle the establishment of the Faculty of Military Science and Interdisciplinary Studies (FMSIS). The Faculty consists of three (3) Departments, namely Intelligence and Cyber Security (ICS), Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSM), and Military Science and Technology (MST). The Academy has a vision of discovery and excellence in teaching, research and creative activity. The Faculty hope to be a leading academic centre, and a self-administered community of scholars, offering quality education and teaching to the next generation of cadets who will go on to influence the way our world will develop. The Faculty would nurture the capacity for innovative thinking while challenging cadets to aspire to greater accomplishments. Officer Cadets would acquire the art of combining knowledge of humanities, natural sciences, as well as applied sciences and engineering in pursuit of the set objectives as the new faculty, is setup to be an intersection of the other faculties.

FMSIS is aimed at developing Officer Cadets with military skills and knowledge in specialized courses using interdisciplinary approach. The Faculty hope to be a leading academic centre and a community of innovative scholars and forward thinkers with quality education to channel and participate in cutting-edge technologies and in changing the future intelligence, cyber security, science, technology, logistics and supply chain management through

1.Exploration of driverless electric vehicles,

2.Advancement and development of innovative use of drones in logistics and other fields

3.Customized development and construction of platoon trucks, autonomous trucks, and cargo ships,

4.Development of reliable artificial intelligence (AI) driven algorithms and defences against AI enabled hacking as most cyber security wars of the future will be fought by good AI bots and bad ones. FMSIS Cadets would be capable as trained experienced officers to aid to winning,

5.Development of cutting-edge cyber security defences against shrewder attacks and pattern analysis with little or no human interference or verification,

6.Development of savvy ethical hackers for the Nigerian Armed Forces capable of providing formidable defence against cyber threats, thereby using the same tools and techniques of real hackers including social engineering and penetration testing to crack and defend the military, and

7.Development of capacities in implementing AI bots for performing Cyber Security task in defence of internet of things and other critical infrastructures

8. using AI to perform cyber security tasks and the knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT) security skills to aid in cyber defences.

FMSIS Officer Cadets would invent hypersonic aircraft, hypersonic vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, ships, military laser technology systems/machines, using information technology and neuroscience to combine human and machine on the battlefield, and employing sociology and psychobiology to combat terrorism.
